Erasmus Mundus MSc Scholarships in Dependable Software Systems (DESEM), Europe

The National University of Ireland Maynooth (NUIM) in Ireland; the University of St. Andrews (UStA) in Scotland; and Université de Lorraine, Nancy (UL) in France are offering a two-year double Master Programme, named Erasmus Mundus MSc in Dependable Software Systems (DESEM)
Course Objective: Our objective is to provide students with the knowledge, skill and in-depth technical understanding of the key concepts required to design and build dependable software systems. This will be achieved by bringing together the theory and practice of software development and, in particular, through the transfer of knowledge from the classroom via research driven and commercially relevant projects.
Degree Description: The double-degree will be achieved over two years, through the allocation of 120ECTS. Students will study in two of the three partner universities, achieving a diploma supplement from each university in which they accomplish 60ECTS from the DESEM Programme.
A student will achieve the double Erasmus Mundus MSc in Dependable Software Systems, through studying the relevant course components at two of the three partner universities.
ADMISSION CRITERIA FOR STUDENTS
The following criteria must be fulfilled by students applying for the Erasmus Mundus MSc in Dependable Software Systems:

The language of instruction in Université de Lorraine, Nancy is English. However, it is recommended that students who intend to study in France have a minimum knowledge of French to help them in their day-to-day living (for instance B1 or B2 in DALF).
Students who do not have such knowledge will have the option of studying the French Language through courses offered during the their course. Letters of motivation which form part of the application requirements should include information about the students willingness to learn the French Language.

The number of monthly allowances is calculated from the start to the end of the course and includes, if applicable, the summer break between two academic years. The monthly allowance amounts may be increased in order to help cover the additional costs of students with special needs; EMMCs concerned will have to inform the Agency accordingly in the context of their annual student scholarship applications.
Participation costs include any compulsory administrative and operational costs related to the participation of the Student in the DESEM Erasmus Mundus Masters programme (e.g., admission, registration, university tuition, course exams, thesis examination, library and computer access, insurance coverage, etc.). The insurance scheme selected by the Coordinating Institution covers adequately the Student in case of accident, injury, hospitalisation and illness while participating in the DESEM Erasmus Mundus Masters Programme.
Other costs, such as document application, visa and residence permits, books, local transportation, travel to the host universities and accommodation, including the travel and accommodation expenditures to participate in the two summer schools are not covered by these participation costs.

Without prejudice to high academic standards, in order to ensure geographical diversity among students/scholars, EMMC consortia shall respect the following basic criteria when selecting students/scholars for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship:

SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR STUDENTS

Students fulfilling the eligibility criteria for both Category A and B – e.g. students with a double nationality – must select the Category of their choice. As a result, they are entitled to apply only to one of the two categories of scholarship at a time.

HOW TO APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS:
Apply as above before January 15th 2013. Applicants who obtain scholarships are typically those who have 1st class derees from a university that is listed in the top 500 of the Times Higher Education World University Rankings.

It is expected that most students will apply before they have completed their final examinations. Such applications will be assessed on their previous results, and may be offered a conditional scholarship. Students who are offered a conditional place must provide their final results and a copy of their diploma/full certified transcript by June 30th 2013, and will be notified within 10 working days of final acceptance if they meet the conditions or rejection if they do not.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR SCHOLARS
Applicants for scholar positions should consist of a Curriculum Vitae, appropriate evidence of qualifications and scholarly activities and a statement of the potential contribution that the scholar would bring to the Erasmus Mundus MSc in Dependable Software Systems. Scholars may apply to the Masters consortium at any time. Normally one scholar position per institution will be offered in each year.
